Potential and Opportunities for Investment

98% of Kepulauan Riau Province territory is ocean, therefore it is very suitable for developing the cultivation of fishery industry, started from insemination up to using the cultivation technology and catching. In Karimun Regency there are big fish and seaweed cultivation. Batam, Bintan, Lingga and Natuna have the big potential in fishery as well. In those four regencies freshwater fishery is also being developed.

b. Coastal resources and small islands

The coastal resources are spread among waters territory of Bintan regency, Natuna, Karimun, Lingga, Batam and Tanjung Pinang.

This sector is spread throughout Bintan Regency (and its surroundings), Tanjung Pinang, Karimun, Lingga (Senayang & Singkep), Batam (Barelang) and Natuna (Siantan, Natuna and its surroundings) regencies.


d. Petroleum, Natural Gas, Sea sand, and sunken ship cargo

  • Oil and Gas are available in Natuna Regency.
  • Sea sand is abundant in Bintan, Karimun and Batam regions.
  • Sunken ship cargos are easily found in eastern waters part of Bintan, Lingga and Natuna regencies

2. MINING
Bintan Regency consists of small and big islands’ constellations, which have relatively huge amount of natural mineral and energy resources, classified in three types: type A (strategic), type B (vital) and type C.

a.
Bauxite
  • Bauxite is abundantly discovred in Bintan island, more and less at 15.000.000 tons. Some are residual deposit in East Bintan sub district, it has been explorated since the Dutch colonization by NV Nibem and now it is being managed by PT Aneka Tambang tbk. The other 10.000.000 tons is unexploited sediment/deposit in North Bintan sub district, Bintan Regency, Kundur and Karimun with total reserve of 3.835.500 m³.
b. Granite and Sand
  • The potential type C mine is granite which is largely found in the province and is one of the main mineral commodities due to the massive amount of reserve available in Bintan.
  • Sand mining potential vary from sea sand and land sand. Sea sand has relatively high economical value, especially for reclamation purposes in Singapore and Malaysia. The land sand’s reserve is abaut 6.800.000 m³ and sea sand’s reserve is 7.164.348.267 tons.
